A federal court jury on Wednesday found a former McKinney woman guilty of helping her fiance plan the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Holly Elkins' conviction carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Witnesses in the trial said Elkins helped her fiance, Andrew Beard, plan and carry out the murder of Alyssa Burkett in October 2020. Burkett was shot and stabbed in the parking lot of a Carrollton apartment leasing office in the middle of the day.

Prosecutors said Burkett and Beard were in a fight over their daughter. They added that Elkins helped Beard dress as a Black man and helped him secure the equipment for the attack. Elkins was also accused of giving a fake alibi when she was questioned about the murder.

Beard pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 43 years in prison.
