On this beautiful Saturday afternoon, though, Mr. Brennen was sitting on Eberly Avenue, sipping a cold beverage and listening to the sounds of the Illegal Smiles during the fourth annual Porchfest. He was part of a group of friends, enjoying 18 bands doing free shows in the west-end Bowling Green neighborhood. They were camped out in an Eberly yard, with a large cooler between them, cracking beer cans and passing around packages of cookies and almonds. “Very rarely do you get to go somewhere and hear all kinds of different genres, which is a really neat part of this festival,” said Dave Rhoads, who came from Columbus for the concerts and was staying with Mr. Brennen. “The other thing I like is just the community — the vibe and the fact that this whole street comes together to do this.”
