This Ohio Diner Keeps The Spirit Of The 1950s Alive Every Single Day
There is a diner in small-town Ohio where the neon sign still glows, the counter stools still spin, and the homemade pies still taste like something your grandmother would have made on a Sunday afternoon. I had heard about this place from a friend who described it as a time...

Newcomers, old favorites highlight 2026 Restaurant Week Toledo menu
Marcel’s, a newcomer on Sylvania Avenue, is getting its first taste of Restaurant Week Toledo — and owners say the event is as much about community as it is about cuisine. The restaurant, which opened at the end of 2024 at 6600 Sylvania Ave., is among nearly 50 participating locations in this year’s Restaurant Week Toledo, running Monday through March 8. The annual promotion encourages diners to explore local eateries while raising money for Leadership Toledo’s tuition-free youth programs. “We’re really excited. We have a number of new restaurants this year,” said Anna Toney, executive director of Leadership Toledo, which organizes the event. At Marcel’s, executive chef and co-owner Marcel Hesseling plans to showcase the restaurant’s comfort-forward menu with a global influence. Restaurant Week specials include traditional meatloaf, stuffed mushrooms, and carbonara. The restaurant is open for dinner Wednesdays through Saturdays. “I’m looking forward to feedback from the community — especially the folks who have not been here yet,” Mr. Hesseling said. “And not just about the food, but the restaurant itself and our staff.” Co-owner Amanda Maag said participating in Restaurant Week aligns with the restaurant’s mission to be part of Toledo’s broader small-business network. It “promotes local business

2026 Burning Snowman to be biggest yet
PORT CLINTON – The snowman is being stuffed with Christmas trees in anticipation of the biggest Burning Snowman Festival ever. This year’s snowman is named Leroy. With his giant top hat, he will be more than 38 feet tall and filled with as many as 150 dried-out Christmas trees for firewood. Burning Snowman Festival is in Port Clinton on Saturday, Feb. 28. Organizer Lenny Kromer, the lead snowman builder, said that people start arriving in town Friday, but the festival doesn’t officially start until the next day at noon. The burn is planned for 7:30 p.m. “It takes a couple of months to put this together, and about a week on the beach,” Kromer said. “We use the same frame every year. This year is going to be the tallest. We have a six-foot hat. The head’s bigger than it’s ever been before, so we’re pushing 38 feet.” Kromer expects the party atmosphere to smash all the previous records because this year is expected to be much warmer than last year, and 2025 was the biggest ever. It was only five degrees, with high winds off the lake. Temperature predictions have been as high as 40 degrees during the day
