Northern California player wins big Powerball prize as $847 million jackpot hit

A Powerball ticket sold in Northern California fell just one number short of winning the $847 million jackpot, lottery officials said. Instead, the lucky ticket won $73,668. The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, Nov. 4, the California State Lottery said. California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners. A player in New Jersey won the $847 million jackpot. Where was winning Powerball ticket sold in California? The lucky ticket was sold at a Chevron station at 3411 Blume Drive in San Pablo, lottery officials said. What were winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing? The winning numbers were 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56 with a Powerball of 21. The Power Play multiplier was 2x. What is the Powerball jackpot up to now? The jackpot now rises to an estimated $20 million , with a cash value of about $8.6 million, for the next drawing Saturday, Nov. 7, the national Powerball site said. Sacramento restaurant closed over rodent droppings. What else did inspectors find?

Sacramento County Health Inspectors gave a red placard to a Japanese fusion restaurant after finding about 20 rodent droppings throughout the facility. Additionally, 12 restaurants were cited for unattended raw chicken, gunk found on a can opener and a missing food safety certificate. What do these inspections mean? While a yellow placard signals two or more major violations, these are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection, according to the Sacramento County Retail Food Inspection Guide . A red placard, however, signals “imminent danger to public health and safety” and suspends an establishment’s health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, major vermin contamination . In contrast, a green placard means a restaurant passed inspection. The county performs about 14,000 inspections annually and about 97% of establishments pass, spokesman Ken Casparis previously told The Sacramento Bee. Approximately 1% of inspections result in a closure, he said. These were the results of Sacramento County food facility inspections for Thursday, Oct. 29, through Wednesday, Nov. 4. If an inspection listed below needs clarification, business owners can email The Sacramento Bee at servicejournalists@sacbee.com . Sacramento-area residents have a mix of news to track this Thursday, from pest problems to pantry safety to a new dining option. Here’s a quick look at three stories making headlines. Sacramento ranked No. 20 on Orkin’s 2026 list of the 50 worst U.S. cities for rodent infestations, and a Terminix home inspector told The Bee that rats and mice seek warmth and shelter indoors during colder months , squeezing through holes as small as a dime to nest in walls. October brought a wave of food recalls affecting California shoppers , including WinCo salsa bean dip trays tied to peperoncini from a company linked to a dead mouse video, a frozen lemon alfredo fettuccine sold at Walmart for possible listeria, more than 122,000 cases of Gatorade with undeclared yellow dyes and Once Upon a Farm toddler snack bars pulled over a choking hazard. Bohl, the Elk Grove salad and rice bowl spot owned by former Dutch Bros franchisees Hailey and Kyle Garret, is opening a second location at 10357 Fairway Drive in Roseville in 2027 , serving signature bowls like the “lettuce enter the dragon” and “steak me outside” alongside build-your-own options.
