Aeronca: The Journey of America’s Pioneer in Commercial General Aviation

The Aeronautical Corporation of America, originally formed as Cincinnati Aeronautical Corporation, was founded on November 11, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is often shortened to Aeronca and became the first American company to produce a commercially successful general aviation aircraft. In 1941, the company officially changed its name to Aeronca Aircraft Corporation. The company began production in 1929 with the Aeronca C-2 monoplane, known as the “Flying Bathtub.” The “C” in its name stands for Cincinnati. In 1937, the company introduced the Scout, a two-seater model. The Scout evolved into the Chief and Super Chief the following year. In 1937, the Ohio River flood washed away the entire Lunken Airport area, destroying Aeronca’s factory, tooling, and nearly all early blueprints and drawings. Because of this, the company moved out of the floodplain in 1939 to Hook Field Municipal Airport in Middletown, Ohio. By October 1940, the factory had to expand by 25,000 square feet to meet production needs.

Data Centers Take a Beating at the Ballot Box, Putting Land Valuations on Notice

The vote wasn't close. In Trenton, Ohio, a ballot measure capping data center capacity at 25 megawatts passed with nearly 80 percent of the vote Tuesday. Eighteen other Ohio municipalities posted similar results, and the rejection spread nationwide: voters in at least 29 jurisdictions passed bans or restrictions on data centers, The Washington Post reported, while the Data Centers on the Ballot tracker counted 37 restrictive measures passed and six more leading as of Wednesday morning. Only one — in Harwood, North Dakota — was voted down.

New builder steps in to finish 31-home College Hill project

A new builder is taking over Station Court in Cincinnati’s College Hill neighborhood, where 29 of the planned 31 single-family homes remain to be built. Thomas J. Ackermann Company has been named the new builder for the residential development, according to a community announcement. The change is intended to restart work on a project that has faced delays since breaking ground in 2023. Two homes have been completed at Station Court. The announcement cited higher construction costs, challenging economic conditions and broader housing market pressures as factors that slowed the development. “College Hill cannot afford to stand still, and neither can our development pipeline,” said Emmanuel Karikari, CEO of CHCURC . “Station Court is an important residential investment, and bringing in a builder with T.J. Ackermann’s experience and familiarity with our neighborhood is a meaningful step forward.” Builder has previous College Hill ties Thomas J. 3CDC completes $5.1M purchase of former church campus in Over-the-Rhine

3CDC has completed its $5.1 million purchase of the former St. Francis Seraph Church campus in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The acquisition, finalized October 20, includes seven parcels previously owned by the Franciscan Friars of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The purchase follows a city partnership intended to preserve services at the St. Anthony Center while Cincinnati develops its proposed Center of Care initiative. Specific redevelopment plans for the historic church property have not yet been announced.
