Memorial Day: Remembering our fallen heroes in the Upper Peninsula
IT'S MEMORIAL DAY, CELEBRATED ON THE LAST MONDAY IN MAY. ORIGINALLY CALLED DECORATION DAY, IT BEGAN IN 1868 AS A TRIBUTE TO ALL THE CASUALTIES OF THE CIVIL WAR. AFTER WORLD WAR ONE, HOWEVER, IT BECAME A MEMORIAL TRIBUTE TO ALL OUR FALLEN VETERANS. CEREMONIES WERE HELD TODAY IN MARQUETTE, AT THE CITY'S PARK CEMETERY AND AT HOLY CROSS CEMETERY. HERE NOW ARE THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF THIS SOLEMN DAY.

Michigan hospital CEO squashes rumors of birthing center closure
Mitch Leckelt, CEO of UP Health System - Bell in Ishpeming, Mich., has shut down rumors that the hospital's women's care and birthing center will be closing. In a recent letter addressed to patients, staff and providers, Mr. Leckelt assured the community that the center is not closing despite the upcoming August departure of two of its providers, Kelly Menge, DO, and Kimberly Baker, DO.
