Prince William County firefighters battle 3 blazes over 4 days; 24 residents displaced
Prince William County firefighters battled three separate blazes over four days this week, displacing 24 residents and drawing on mutual aid from neighboring counties. Catharpin basement fire displaces five A basement fire on Thursday, Nov. 5 heavily damaged a two-story home in the 3700 block of Avonlea Way in Catharpin, displacing three adults, two children and their dog, fire officials said. Crews arrived at 10:46 a.m. to smoke showing from the front door and quickly knocked down the flames before they reached the upper floors, Prince William County fire and rescue Battalion Chief Brian Ferguson said. The home's smoke alarm sounded and alerted the residents, who got out safely before crews arrived. Because there are no hydrants nearby, fire department tankers supplied water. A total of 17 fire and rescue units responded, including mutual aid from Fairfax and Loudoun fire departments. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, Ferguson said. Two-alarm Woodbridge fire displaces 12, spreads to neighboring home On Tuesday, Nov. 3, just after midnight, fire crews were called to a blaze in the 2000 block of Sussex Court in Woodbridge and arrived to find extensive fire at the rear of a one-story, single-family home.
