The old YMCA building on Patterson Street in Eugene is scheduled to be demolished starting Wednesday. Contractors will fence off the north half of the tennis center parking lot for the project. Some tennis center users will need to use alternate parking during the six- to seven-week demolition. For now, tennis players will need to use street parking. After school is out, members can park at South Eugene High School.

Man who stabbed 7-Eleven clerk pleads guilty to assault
EUGENE, Ore. – The man accused of stabbing a 7-Eleven clerk earlier in 2024 has pleaded guilty to two charges filed against him. Back on January 4, police responded to a reported stabbing at a 7-Eleven on west Sixth Avenue. Eugene police said Robert Lee Childers, 40, of Springfield, had walked into the store, grabbed a few items, got into an argument with a clerk, stabbed the clerk, and left without paying for his items. Police said the clerk was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening wounds. Childers was arrested on January 7 and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.
