Page county road closes for six weeks
Parts of Route 689 east of Stanley in Page County will be closed to through traffic for about six weeks beginning Monday morning. The Virginia Department of Transportation said that the highway will be shuttered between the two intersections with Ida Hollow Road as crews replace the bridge over East Hawksbill Creek.
Madison long-distance runners place at state championships
HARRISONBURG - Two Madison County long-distance runners scored points for the Mountaineers at Saturday’s VHSL Class 2 boys outdoor track and field state championships held at JMU’s Sentara Park. Freshman Evan Roberts finished fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:43.93 and junior Aiden Griffin placed sixth in the 3,200 run. Madison finished in a tie for 25th place in the Class 2 championship.

The following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the next week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. Culpeper County (NEW) New roadway construction – Expect road closures and detours with flaggers for a new roundabout, in the following areas: U.S. 522 (West Evans Street), closed at North Blue Ridge Avenue. Follow detour signs around the intersection. Project completion date: August 31, 2023. U.S. 522 (West Evans Street), closed between North Blue Ridge Avenue and Aspen Street, in the northbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Greene County U.S. 33 (Spotswood Trail) / U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) Intersection Improvements – Expect milling, paving, striping, median separator, and grassing on U.S. 29 and U.S. 33 between U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 680 (Pinewood Court) in the eastbound and westbound lanes. Please use extra caution through the work zone, daily, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly on U.S. 29. Route 638 (Turkey Ridge Road) – Bridge replacement. Road will be closed between Route 634 (Bull Yearling Road) and Route 637 (South River Road). Project completion date, December 15, 2023. Traffic alert: Part of Route 689 in Page County to close for bridge replacement
A part of Route 689 (Ida Road) in Page County will be closed to through traffic for approximately six weeks starting Monday, June 12. The closure of route 689 between the two intersections with Route 629 (Hollow Run Road/Ida Hollow Road) will allow Virginia Department of Transportation crews to replace the East Hawksbill Creek bridge.

Graves Mountain Music Festival opens with storyteller
Graves Mountain Music Festival opened Thursday afternoon with families arriving at the campground in Syria while volunteers continued setting up the music area by the Rose River.
