Publix is set to open several new stores in November, bringing its iconic green logo to more communities in Georgia and South Carolina. The Lakeland, Florida-headquartered grocer is opening two new stores in the second half of November: one in Mableton, Georgia, and another in Florence, South Carolina. The upcoming locations follow three openings at the beginning of the month in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Publix has roughly 1,440 supermarkets in the Southeast, with locations in Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia as of June 27, 2026, according to the company's second-quarter financial results . That's up from 1,411 locations a year ago. Publix reported $31.9 billion in sales for the six months ending June 27, 2026, up 1.5% from a year ago. Harpootlian drops Group Therapy appeal, continues fight against neighboring bar’s liquor license
COLUMBIA — Dick Harpootlian’s latest challenge to Five Points institution Group Therapy has officially ended, but a similar challenge to the neighboring Five Points Saloon is ongoing. The cases began in July 2024, when former Wales Garden Neighborhood Association President Coley Frank Adams filed protests against the bar’s liquor licenses being renewed by the state. Recommendation of the Week: Japchae at Columbia's 929 Kitchen & Bar
So I recently turned 48, and on my birthday my wife asked me where I wanted to go out for dinner that night, seeing as it was a bit of a special occasion. I didn’t even have to think for a moment before I replied that I wanted to go to 929 Kitchen & Bar , the popular Korean restaurant on Gervais Street in the heart of Columbia’s Vista. Through the years it has become our family’s spot for birthday dinners, date nights or as a place grab food before or after a University of South Carolina basketball game. On our recent visit we opted for the kimchi bulgogi nachos as an appetizer. I usually order the kimchi cheese fries as the app, but I’ll never say no to a good nacho. And for my entree, I went with a favorite: spicy japchae with chicken. That’s wok-fried clear sweet potato noodles with red and green bell peppers, onions, scallions and carrots.
