Popular spot in Canandaigua brings back Mexican street food
CANANDAIGUA — Never, ever, ever underestimate the power of Taco Tuesdays. Not that Star Cider ever has in its going on seven years in operation, but the return of Mexican street food to the Canandaigua cidery last fall not only served as somewhat of a reunion for staff and customers, but has sparked a shared creativity for food, drink and special events heading into 2026. Face it: A ciderita, a margarita drink made with cider, screams for a taco or two or three. Martín Castillo Lara is chef, and with assistance from his brother, Samuel, is now running the kitchen. They got it. “It’s been awesome,” Stahl said. “The feedback has been amazing. He’s really talented.” Castillo Lara is versatile, having worked preparing deli-style, Italian and sushi dishes in addition to Mexican cuisine in various eateries in New York City, Chicago and Rochester. “I’m anxious to show people what I have learned,” Castillo Lara said. Nachos and burritos are among his fan favorites, as are slow-cooked beef birrias and
