Starmount wins, seniors honored
The Starmount softball team won its Monday game against North Stokes with a final score of 10-2. The Starmount baseball team claimed a 4-3 victory over East Wilkes on Friday. The team’s senior students were honored at a special ceremony at the game.
Bears host NW1A Tennis Tournament
Mount Airy hosted the Northwest 1A Conference Tennis Tournament Championship April 23-24. Defending 1A State Champion Elkin swept the conference’s top individual prizes. Senior Owen Jennings, who was also voted NW1A Player of the Year, won the singles bracket by only dropping a combined two games across three matches. On Thursday, the Lady Elks softball team were presented with an opportunity to move up in the conference rankings. They had been ranked third in the 1A Northwest Conference since losing to South Stokes, 3-1, on April 2. They had known that they would need a win to tie with the Sauras for second place. North Surry booked its ticket to the Foothills 2A Conference Tournament Championship by posting back-to-back wins over North Wilkes and West Wilkes.
