Granite Bears win NW1A Golf Championship

ROARING GAP — Mount Airy secured a sweep of the Northwest 1A Conference’s top golf prizes by winning the conference tournament on April 23.

Mount Airy won the NW1A Tournament Title at Roaring Gap Club with an 18-hole team score of 309 strokes. Elkin had the next-highest team finish at 343 strokes, followed by East Wilkes at 353, South Stokes at 356, Starmount at 378, Alleghany at 381 and North Stokes at 430.

Granite Bear Brandon Bowman was the medalist for the match with a score of 72 strokes, posting 36 on both the front and back nine. Bowman was also named NW1A Golfer of the Year.

Mount Airy’s Mason Varney and Shockley Hiatt tied South Stokes’ Sawyer Slate for second at the tournament with 77 strokes.
