Police: Newport man arrested for DUI after ‘wild’ ride
NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) - A Newport man faces drunken driving and a slew of other charges after police say a wild drive Tuesday night nearly ended in a crash on the Causeway. Newport Police say Kaleb Earle, 23, sped by the Main Street police station around 8 p,m., alerting officers with his loud engine exhaust. They say he then crossed the double yellow line and drove in the oncoming lane. Police tried to pull him over but say he accelerated onto Access Road, nearly flipping the pickup.

Massachusetts man sentenced for organizing Northeast Kingdom drug ring
Burlington, VT- A Massachusetts man was sentenced to nearly 8 years in prison for selling cocaine and fentanyl in the Northeast Kingdom. Juan Carlos Ortiz, 29, from Springfield, MA, had previously pleaded guilty to the charges of selling drugs between November 2021 and August 2022 under a plea agreement. According to court records, Ortiz organized a group of 13 people in a drug-distributing network that sold mostly in the Northeast Kingdom, including Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia Counties.

Two vehicles totaled in Lyndon collision, one driver hospitalized
LYNDON — A head-on collision on Red Village Road near Black Walnut Lane resulted in two totaled vehicles and minor injuries for one driver, Vermont State Police reported. The crash occurred at 11:14 a.m. when Joslyn Richardson, 35, of Barre, fell asleep at the wheel of her 2019 Subaru Impreza and struck a 2021 Hyundai KONA operated by Danica Rolfe, 48, of Kirby.
