Diablo Dish: Marufuku Ramen Opens in Dublin
Popular ramen purveyor Marufuku Ramen debuts its second East Bay location in Dublin this Wednesday, March 11. Known for its authentic Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen featuring thin noodles and rich, milky, long-simmered pork broth, the growing chain was founded in 2017 by Japanese entrepreneur Eiichi Mochizuki in San Francisco’s Japantown and has been a hit since it expanded east to Oakland’s Temescal district in 2023. Marufuku announced last year it would be launching new locations in Dublin and downtown Walnut Creek, where it’s expected to open in the former Extreme Pizza space on Cypress Street next month. The Dublin shop is at 4288 Dublin Boulevard where it will join a multitude of other Asian eats in the Ulferts Center shopping plaza. Open daily for lunch and dinner, Marufuku Dublin serves its signature tonkotsu, along with chicken paitan ramen, mini rice bowls, and izakaya-style appetizers, plus premium beer and sake. In a statement, Mochizuki expressed excitement at bringing “an authentic Japanese ramen experience rooted in tradition, quality ingredients, and warm hospitality” to the Tri-Valley.

The Montesacro team goes gluten-free with new neighborhood trattoria
Gianluca Legrottaglie is the kind of Italian-born chef who sips hot, velvety shots of espresso even on unseasonably warm spring afternoons and bemoans the mediocre quality of limoncello in this country. He has strong opinions about the proper texture of pasta dough and is proud to have introduced the oval-shaped Roman pizza called “pinsa” to the U.S. when he opened the first Montesacro in SoMa more than a decade ago.
