Judy Rumery of Pella was traveling westbound on U.S. Interstate 80 near the 113 mile marker when her vehicle collided with a semi-tractor trailer, driven by Uri Igolkin of Aurora, Colorado. No injuries were reported. Damage to Rumery’s vehicle was estimated at $7,000, and damage to Igolkin’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
Friday Fest with Rukkus Brings Excitement to Perry
The residents of Perry and in surrounding areas can mark their calendars to have a good time this Friday with some fun inside of Pattee Park. Friday Fest is back this Friday from 6 to 9:30pm.The Perry Chamber of Commerce has booked the band Rukkus to perform live music along with inflatables for kids and several different food trucks. Chamber Executive Director Lynsi Pasutti says that it is expected to have nice weather for people to pack a cooler and come out to Pattee Park for some entertainment.

Fire Destroys Structure on Wednesday in Perry
There was structure fire in Perry Wednesday evening. According to the Perry Police Department Dispatch, they responded to the scene 5:09pm at 1624 West Third Street. The fire involved an attached garage and vehicle, along with the home at 1624 West Third Street and there is some damage to a nearby home at 911 Dewey Street.
Reminder of Click It or Ticket Through Sunday
Guthrie County Roads have been seeing increased law enforcement traffic in recent weeks. Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says this is because law enforcement entities across the state, including the Iowa State Patrol have joined the National Safety Bureau’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign, which finishes on Sunday. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why they want to make sure everyone is safe.
DMACC Perry VanKirk Academy Students Perform Well State Welding Contest
The Perry VanKirk Career Welding Academy students performed well at the state competition. Four students participated in the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33 High School State Welding Contest on May 19th in Des Moines. Kain Killmer of Perry placed first in the torch cutting category. Instructor Brent Rowe says Killmer is one of his stand out students.
Car, truck collide on Willis Avenue by Fareway Monday
A car and a pickup truck collided in the 1300 block of Willis Avenue early Monday afternoon. The Dallas County EMS responded to treat reported injuries. It is unknown at this hour whether any victims were transported. The collision occurred about 12:30 p.m. Both vehicles appeared to sustain front-end damages.
Dallas County Conservation Promotes Free Fishing Weekend in Iowa
Anyone with fishing equipment, but doesn’t have a license can test out the waters for this weekend with no penalty. Department of Natural Resource Officer for Dallas County Dusting Eighmy says that the free fishing weekend runs from Friday through Sunday. Eighmy explains that someone without an updated fishing license can legally fish, but all other regulations remain in place. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that its a perfect time to take family members fishing or introduce a friend into the sport of fishing.
Food Bank of Iowa June Schedule for Dallas County
The Food Bank of Iowa will make three stops in Dallas County in the month of June. Their mobile food pantry truck will be in Redfield from 4:30 to 6:30pm on June 7th at the city hall office. The Food Bank will also make a stop in Adel from 5 to 7:30pm on June 26th at the New Hope Church and then their mobile pantry will head to Perry on June 28th from 3 to 5pm at the Dallas County Hospital.

Jayettes softball starts season on hot streak, soccer heads to state
As the Bluejays soccer team earned a spot in the state tournament, Perry’s softball and baseball teams had their first full week of games. (Note: Events covered May 22-28) The Bluejays punched their state tournament ticket on May 24 with a 3-1 win over Glenwood. A combined effort from Anthony Chavez, Jonatan Banuelos and Alex Banuelos goals gave the edge through the posts while goalie Luis Castro had a good workout saving 11 shots from the Rams.
Perry Soccer Plays in State Opener Today
The Perry soccer team will take the heralded trip to the capitol city today as one of the best eight teams in the state of Iowa in Class 2A. The 8th seeded Bluejays will take on defending state champion and top seed Davenport Assumption in a 1:00 quarterfinal battle this afternoon on Field 9 at the Cownie Complex.

Perry School District Exits On June 2nd for Summer
The students and faculty of the Perry Community School District are anticipating a break as the school year comes to an end this week. The district’s last day to host students will be June 2nd and they will have a three hour early dismissal. Their original end to the second semester for the Perry Community School District was May 26th, but due to snow days and other factors they had to push back the last of school into June. Parents or guardians can already get ready for next school year as registration is open for new and returning students for the 2023-24 school year. Link can be found here.
Midwest losing population, Des Moines metro grows while Tiffin is fastest growing
Des Moines, IA- The population of the eastern Iowa community of Tiffin increased 11% last year, making it Iowa’s fastest-growing town. Radio Iowa reports that Tiffin is about a 15-minute drive from Iowa City. The latest estimates from the US Census Bureau indicate Tiffin’s population topped 5800 last July. The population of the Des Moines suburb of Waukee grew 10% from mid-2021 to July of last year. Population growth in Des Moines was 1.2%. Sioux Falls, South Dakota was the only other Midwest metro that saw higher growth.
Adel Public Library Celebrates New Little Mermaid Movie with Party
The Adel Public Library will celebrate the release of the new “The Little Mermaid” movie with a party this week. Patron Services Manager Amy Puck says they are asking for princesses and princes to come to their “Little Mermaid Find Your Voice Party,” from 10 to 11:30am tomorrow. Pucks says they will have stories from under-the-sea, snacks, activities, crafts and a special guest appearance.
DC-Grimes Boys Soccer Takes On Iowa City Liberty Today
The Dallas Center-Grimes boys soccer team takes on Iowa City Liberty in the quarterfinals of state tournament in Des Moines today. Their season will be on the line against the Liberty Lightening at 4:20pm at the James W. Cownie Complex. The Mustangs are on a six game winning streak, but will have to beat the Lightening, who have 9 wins out of the Mississippi Conference.
