Wedding season in Kentucky: 10 unique venues and what’s in style for 2024

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — The most popular time to get married is between June and October, according to a recent study by The Knot , with 19% of couples planning their weddings in six months or less.
Whether you want rolling bluegrass fields, a castle, or a wedding in a cave, Kentucky most likely has a venue for your special day.
Heather Martin, of 27 Social , is a Lexington wedding and event planner with 12 years of experience. She offered FOX 56 News some tips for choosing a wedding venue while saving some cash and headaches.
Martin said it is important to know your budget.
“Make sure you know your overall budget,” she said. “Coming up with that budget and allocating money to different areas.”
Flexibility is a powerful tool for saving money or getting a dream venue that might be out of reach.
“A good way to save is to be flexible with that date. Kentucky’s wedding season is from April through October. Sometimes picking an off-season wedding or a Sunday wedding can help save money,” Martin said.
What is in style?
Martin said wedding venues with strong themes are big right now.
“People enjoy something unique, something very Kentucky, or something with its own theme. People also love to have a place that is special to them,” she said.
Outside of the look and feel, couples are more interested in one-stop shops for their big day.
”You see a lot more people that like to have everything in one spot—the wedding, the reception, etc. To be able to have everything in one spot is very sought-after right now,” Martin said.
Managing wedding stress
Bride and groomzillas aren’t made overnight. Weddings take a lot of time and planning; a 2023 study from The Knot estimates weddings take an average of 15 months.
Martin said enlisting a professional can help manage some of that stress.
“A wedding coordinator is out there for everyone, depending on their needs. A wedding coordinator can really help you manage that budget. [A wedding planner] can be involved as much or little in the wedding as needed. Coordination is the day of, when I make sure everything goes smoothly, but I can also be more involved or less,” she said.
Many wedding planners like Martin offer a variety of services, from consultations where they can just help you decide what it is you want from your wedding to full planning where they can pick the venue, book catering, and make sure everything goes smoothly on the big day.
