(WSAZ) - Mid-Tuesday evening, a cloudburst parked over southern Wayne WV dumping more than 2″ of rain. A Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service. 911 dispatchers tell Newschannel 3 that the area around Cabwaylingo State Park has high water. Given the weather conditions that fostered this torrent will be around thru Wednesday, the risk of new high water in select spots is a strong possibility.
Ambulance service owner convicted of tax crimes
The owner of an ambulance service that operates in Mingo County has been convicted in federal court of tax crimes. According to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Will Thompson, after four days of trial on May 2, a jury in Beckley convicted Christopher Jason Smyth, 48, of Pineville, for for failing to pay the taxes withheld from employees’ wages at an ambulance service he operated – Stat EMS — and for obstructing the IRS.

(WCHS) — After Lincoln County Senior State Trooper Travis Hurley was stabbed multiple times and hospitalized by a suspect who ran from a traffic stop, State Police Superintendent Col. Jack Chambers said this just adds to a troubling trend within the past year. Even within the past week, a man was killed in Greenbrier County after troopers said he refused to drop a knife.

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Two Mingo County women are accused of having two children live in deplorable conditions. A criminal complaint filed in Mingo County magistrate court says Christi Hatfield, 36, and her mother Sharon Simpson, 63, both of Williamson, were charged Tuesday following an investigation at Simpson’s home.
