The family of a south suburban high school student filed a federal lawsuit, accusing a police officer working at the school of abusing the student by shoving him.

Jacob Marsh is the attorney representing the family of a junior fromThornton Fractional South High School in Lansing. Marsh claims on March 7, Lansing Police detective, working as a school resource officer, became upset when the student tried to go between another student sitting at a table and the officer

"He tried to squeeze between the officer and the table and he does that thing where you kind of make yourself as skinny as possible and kind of squeeze through and she takes offense to that and shoves them in the back," Marsh said.

Marsh also accuses the officer of threatening to use a stun device on the student, and he claims the officer violated the student's constitutional rights by using excessive force.

Lansing police Chief Alfred Phillips told the Daily Southtown the officer acted in accordance with how police are trained, as the student made contact with the officer who didn't know what the students intentions were good.
