(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Glendale Heights man who police say assisted Xavier Tate, the man charged with the murder of CPD Officer Luis Huesca, is free on pre-trial release.

Malek Murphy, 23, is charged with a felony,

“The individual Tate was staying with was charged in Dupage County for concealing and aiding a fugitive,” said Chicago Police Department Chief of Detectives Antoinette Ursitti.

Prosecutors say Tate stayed with Murphy from Monday through Wednesday when they were arrested and he knew that Tate was wanted for the murder of officer Huesca.

Police declined to say how they determined Tate was staying in the apartment in Glendale Heights.

Chief Ursitti said anyone who assisted him will be held accountable.

Tate had also been in Wisconsin and Iowa following the murder.
