(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two people were hospitalized after what police described as an unprovoked attack at a park in McHenry on Sunday afternoon.

Police said it happened at about 3:30 p.m. Raymond Link, a 47-year-old from Wisconsin, was walking his dog without a leash when he attacked a 59-year-old woman at Peterson Park.

The woman, who was also walking her dog, suffered serious injuries to her face and multiple dog bites. Officials said there didn’t appear to be any connection between Link and the victim.

A 37-year-old man then intervened but was also injured and suffered a broken collar bone.

The woman was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital and was later flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.

Link was arrested and charged with attempted murder and multiple counts of aggravated battery. Police said his dog is in the care of McHenry County Animal Control.

An investigation into the attack is ongoing.
