On this day (November 5) in 1946, Ingram Cecil Connor III was born in Winter Haven, Florida. However, you may better recognize him as Gram Parsons, the visionary artist whose intergalactic blend of country, rock, R&B, soul and folk music laid the foundation for what we now know as country-rock. A member of the Byrds and co-founder of The Flying Burrito Brothers before embarking on a solo career, Parsons’s remarkable musical run was cut tragically short when the 26-year-old singer-songwriter died of an accidental overdose on September 19, 1973.

Florida resort that hosts PGA Tour event is being sold

With news Thursday that Colonial Country Club in Texas is likely to lose its PGA Tour event and Kapalua having been dropped from the competition schedule this year, it’s a relief to see that another longtime Tour staple is still going strong. And it soon will have new ownership. Salamander Collection acquired Innisbrook Resort in 2007, and now that hospitality company is selling the resort to Concert Golf Partners. The Central Florida-based Concert Golf Partners has expanded rapidly in recent years to own and operate more than 40 courses coast-to-coast, and Innisbrook will be its 10th property in the Sunshine State. The reported sale price approaches $20 million. Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida, has hosted the PGA Tour since 2000. What began as the Tampa Bay Classic is now the Valspar Championship, played each year on Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course. Even before the PGA Tour began hosting an official event there, the resort was home for a decade to the JCPenney Classic, which included mixed teams of Tour players with LPGA players.
