Hot ‘n Now Is Back in West Michigan This Summer!
Hot 'n Now is making a comeback in West Michigan with new locations in Wayland Township and Alpena, reviving a beloved fast food brand from the '90s. When I lived in Flint, Michigan, I was in a band that rehearsed in a storage unit located on Dort Highway. We were broke musicians, so finding the most affordable food was important. Lucky for us, a Hot 'n Now was built directly across the street. We would pool our money and get a bag of 39-cent burgers. Those were the days.

Chick-fil-A seeks to expand state footprint with Gaylord location
GAYLORD — Chick-fil-A, one of the nation's most popular restaurant chains, wants to open an outlet in Gaylord and has filed a site plan with the city's planning commission. Leslie Accardo, a senior project manager for the PEA Group in Auburn Hills, discussed the site plan with the planning commission on July 2. She said Chick-fil-A wants to acquire a building at 1354 W. Main St. (M-32) that was formerly a Ponderosa restaurant and later a marijuana dispensary. Accardo said the 1.9 acre site currently lies in both the city and Livingston Township. Eventually, the plan is for the city to annex the township portion. She said Chick-fil-A will redevelop the building on the site that will include 75 parking spaces, a drive-through lane with room for 35 vehicles, an outdoor patio and a snow storage area. Accardo said the company anticipates the restaurant will employ from 80 to 120 people on a full and part-time basis and hopes to begin construction in the spring of 2026. Accardo said Chick-fil-A has a unique business model, as the company requires a $10,000 initial investment. Unlike traditional franchises where the franchisee covers most of the startup costs, Chick-fil-A covers nearly all expenses,

GAYLORD — Alpenfest, Gaylord's annual summer festival, returns for its 60th year from July 8-12. The festival started in 1965 when area community leaders wanted to establish a festival in the city to showcase the Alpine architecture that many downtown businesses had adopted. "For me, I stand back and watch a year's worth of work unfold. I notice all the happy faces and that's when I know I have done a good job," said Ken Mattei, chairman of the Alpenfest board. Mattei said the ideals that inspired the first Alpenfest remain an important part of the event: bringing the community and visitors together for five days to have fun. "I want everyone to think about having fun and that this is family time. A big part of Alpenfest is getting together with friends. Normally we have a lot of class reunions during the festival," he said. "We looked at some of the events we have had over the past 60 years and we are bring back some that were popular a number of years ago. A good example is the baby diaper derby. People have been requesting this over the past four or five years," Mattei said. Attendees can expect
