Marion County to get new school-based health center

Marion County will receive funding for a new school-based health center as part of more than $55 million aimed at expanding health care access for children and families in rural Ohio. The Marion site is one of 17 new school-based health center sites in 15 counties receiving support, according to a community announcement from Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health . More than $20 million will support the 17 new sites and the expansion or continued operation of another 49 centers in 25 counties. School-based health centers provide primary care services on school campuses, eliminating some transportation and provider-access barriers for families. The centers also serve people living in the surrounding community. The announcement did not identify where the new Marion County center will be located or how much of the funding will go specifically to that site. Statewide funding expands vision and dental care The Marion investment is part of a broader effort funded through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program . More than $18 million, in addition to existing state funding, will expand OhioSEE to all 88 Ohio counties. Adena Health gets $750K grant to add two ambulances

A $750,000 federal grant will help Adena Health System buy and equip two ambulances to transport patients in southern Ohio. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development awarded the Community Facilities grant to expand Adena Health's emergency medical services transportation capabilities, according to a community announcement. The money will go toward two ambulances and the medical equipment, communication systems and safety features needed for inter-facility transfers, patient discharges and urgent transportation. The announcement said the additional vehicles will improve access to health care for rural residents and seniors with limited transportation options. USDA Rural Development Ohio State Director Charles Tassell presented the grant in Chillicothe with Rep. Dave Taylor of Ohio's 2nd Congressional District and Brynn Stepp from Sen. Jon Husted's office. “Too many rural Americans lack access to emergency medical services,” Tassell said. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Rural Development is closing this gap. Medicaid recipients may have to meet new requirements to keep benefits

Beginning January 1, 2027, some adults who receive Medicaid based on their income, rather than age or disability, will be impacted by new federal laws requiring them to meet work or community engagement requirements. Those recipients are starting to receive notifications from the Ohio Department of Medicaid that they must comply with these requirements. The changes are for those ages 19 to 64 who are enrolled in what is called “Medicaid Group VIII” or “expansion Medicaid.”
