As leaves continue to fall across Winona, residents have an opportunity to help protect Lake Winona and the Mississippi River by participating in the Adopt-a-Drain program. The Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), in partnership with Healthy Lake Winona, encourages residents to “adopt” a storm drain near their home and regularly keep it clear of leaves, grass clippings, trash, and other debris. Fall is an especially important time to participate, as fallen leaves can quickly accumulate around storm drains and contribute to water pollution.
