Local families got the keys to their new house thanks to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit striving to build stability and self-reliance with families in need. They help families find affordable mortgages and help them build their new home. It was a happy day Wednesday for a family in Manton, as they toured their new place after all the hard work. “A single adult family needs 300 hours of sweat equity. That is actually time that they spend at the build site. Time to work on the house. They have classes. They have homebuyer education. Grand Traverse County to purchase 200-acre former scout camp for public park
TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. -- A historic scout camp in Northern Michigan may soon begin a new chapter as a public outdoor recreation space. Grand Traverse County has made an offer to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy to purchase the former Camp Greilick property, officials announced this week. Downstate man sentenced in Menominee County on cocaine charge
MENOMINEE, MI— A Traverse City man has been sentenced in Menominee County on a cocaine charge. Raymond MacLeod, 39, was given 18 months to 4 years in prison. Last October, Michigan State Police conducted a traffic stop on US-41 near Snow Road in Nadeau Township. During the investigation, a K-9 was deployed. The dog alerted troopers to 8 grams of cocaine in the passenger compartment.

TC DDA Updates: CEO Search, Farmers Market Move, Parking Agreement
Traverse City Downtown Development Authority (DDA) board members are expected to go into closed session Friday to narrow a field of executive director candidates to 3-4 to be interviewed for downtown’s top position. Board members will also vote to approve an updated contract with SEEDS to run the Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market – which will move to Rotary Square in July for the rest of the season due to the Grandview Parkway reconstruction – and vote to mutually terminate the DDA’s parking management agreement with the City of Traverse City, clearing the way for the city to take over parking.
FishPass construction set to begin in Traverse City on Tuesday, May 21
TRAVERSE CITY — The public should be aware that FishPass construction will begin May 21, 2024, with the installation of site fencing by the contactor Spence Bros., and the US Army Corps of Engineers. As a result, Lot J will be closed, and parking will no longer be accessible through the duration of the project. The stairs on the southwest corner, near the Cass Street Bridge, will be closed at the first landing. There will be no access to the docks in this location. The riverwalk and stairs on the north side of the river, near the Union Street Bridge, will remain open during construction. Pedestrian detour signage will be installed.
