FishPass Construction Begins Tuesday
Construction on the new FishPass system at the Union Street Dam site will begin Tuesday (May 21) in downtown Traverse City. Initial work will include fencing installation by contactor Spence Brothers and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, requiring the lower parking lot (Lot J) by the dam to be closed. Parking there will be inaccessible for the duration of the project.
Downstate man sentenced in Menominee County on cocaine charge
MENOMINEE, MI— A Traverse City man has been sentenced in Menominee County on a cocaine charge. Raymond MacLeod, 39, was given 18 months to 4 years in prison. Last October, Michigan State Police conducted a traffic stop on US-41 near Snow Road in Nadeau Township. During the investigation, a K-9 was deployed. The dog alerted troopers to 8 grams of cocaine in the passenger compartment.

Habitat for Humanity helps local families find housing
Local families got the keys to their new house thanks to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit striving to build stability and self-reliance with families in need. They help families find affordable mortgages and help them build their new home. It was a happy day Wednesday for a family in Manton, as they toured their new place after all the hard work. “A single adult family needs 300 hours of sweat equity. That is actually time that they spend at the build site. Time to work on the house. They have classes. They have homebuyer education. They have financial management,” said Amy Gibbs of the Cadillac Area Habitat for Humanity.

Grand Traverse County to purchase 200-acre former scout camp for public park
TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. -- A historic scout camp in Northern Michigan may soon begin a new chapter as a public outdoor recreation space. Grand Traverse County has made an offer to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy to purchase the former Camp Greilick property, officials announced this week. The offer is awaiting approval from the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy board.

WEXFORD COUNTY, MI -- A Manistee man was arrested Saturday at his home as part of an investigation into claims that he threatened a family member on Facebook. 19-year-old Ohio man arrested after burglary in Traverse City
