Alton crews respond to fire at home of mayor
Alton firefighters were called to the home of Alton Mayor David Goins on Monday after the mayor stopped by his home and discovered smoke. Authorities got the 9-1-1 call from Goins around 11:45am for the home he shares with his wife in the 2700 block of Judson. No injuries were reported, and the small fire was limited to an area in the basement.

Changes to Alton cannabis zone map dies in Committee
The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole chose to do nothing with a remapping of the city’s cannabis zones at Monday’s meeting. The resolution to alter the map designating the borders of the two zones as it relates to cannabis businesses was laid over by Aldermen at its meeting two weeks ago and died for lack of a second at last night’s meeting.
Brighton-Bunker Hill Road intersection nearly done
If the weather cooperates, traffic may be able to traverse the intersection at Brighton-Bunker Hill Road and Fosterburg Road in about a month. Construction crews are doing asphalt work this week. To improve visibility there, the intersection has been raised a few feet and the hill to the west has been lowered.
