Moldy cucumbers among 4 health violations at metro Phoenix restaurants

Maricopa County health inspectors cited a metro Phoenix restaurant for four health violations during the week of Oct. 19. Violations included moldy cucumbers, raw meat liquid leaking into ready-to-eat foods, and keeping prepared foods in a cooler without discard date labels. A priority violation is a major violation that directly increases the risk of foodborne illness or injury. If listed in inspection reports, remedies implemented during the inspection are noted. During the week of Oct. 19, inspectors visited nearly 1,200 restaurants and other food-serving facilities in hospitals, senior homes and schools. About 370 restaurants received an "A" rating. See a sampling of the A-rated restaurants at the bottom of this article. 4 priority violations Aguila’s Hidaway Lighthouse, 12351 W . Indian School Road, Avondale Inspectors found dark and white mold-like growth on whole cucumbers stored in the walk-in cooler. The cucumbers were thrown away during the inspection. An open package of raw ground beef was stored above ready-to-eat foods, including cut cilantro, shredded cheese and tortillas. Liquid from the raw meat had leaked onto the containers and packaging of those foods. The items were embargoed, and the meat was properly stored during the inspection.
