Paving work set to start on remainder of Export's downtown parking lot
Paving work on the northern side of the central parking lot in Export is set to begin next week, according to borough officials. Council President Barry Delissio estimated the work will take three weeks to complete. The paving is one of the borough’s first steps toward creating a more unified downtown area.

Man accused of disrupting multiple Pittsburgh-area church services taken into custody
ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- A man from Westmoreland County has been arrested and is accused of disrupting multiple church services throughout the Pittsburgh area.Joseph Gorencic, Jr. of Lower Burrell is accused of going into nearly a dozen churches and screaming at a priest, among other disruptive behavior. Hours old cats found tied up in plastic bag left in Squirrel Hill

Open mic nights feature local talent in Jeannette
Performers looking to share their artistic craft are getting a chance through new monthly open mic nights in Jeannette. Practice Makes Perfect is working with You Are Here gallery and Jeannette Recreation Board to organize and host the events at the amphitheater on Clay Avenue. The open mic nights will be held the fourth Wednesday of every month through October from 7-9 p.m.
Police arrest New Kensington woman who crashed car while fleeing with child
A woman crashed her car into a house while fleeing from police early Thursday in New Kensington, police said in a criminal complaint. Her young son was in the back seat of the car, which caught fire after the crash. The boy, whose age was not given, suffered a bloody nose and was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh with minor injuries, police said.

Derry Borough this week is coping with the loss of one of its veteran public servants, with the unexpected death of council President Al Checca. Checca, 57, who survived three kidney transplants, died late Sunday, May 12, 2024, in Pittsburgh’s UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He’d been recovering there for nearly a month from a brain aneurysm that triggered his involvement in a vehicle accident in the borough, his daughter Jessica Bulebosh told TribLive.
