Sheetz celebrates opening of new store on Plum's Golden Mile Highway
Promotions and giveaways drew large crowds to the new Sheetz store that opened in Plum on May 1. The convenience store is on Golden Mile Highway at Presque Isle Drive, where a Kings restaurant was torn down after closing in September 2022. Part of the adjacent Presque Isle Plaza also was torn down to make way for the new Sheetz.
Latrobe musician will open for his guitar hero at Jergel's
Brendan Callahan was 12 years old when he sat down as his father and a friend were reminiscing and watching old 1980s rock music videos. “He locked onto ‘Fantasy’ by Aldo Nova, where he uses his guitar at the beginning to shoot a laser and open the door to his gig in a totally cheesy ’80s way,” said Callahan’s father Tim. “As we were laughing about it, Brendan was discovering his guitar hero.”
West Newton Cinema Foundation receives anonymous $5.2 million gift
The West Newton Cinema Foundation, which was created to save the theater from demolition, has announced a $5.2 million gift from an anonymous donor, the Boston Globe reports. Dedicated to the foundation’s overall campaign, the gift includes $3.2 million toward purchase of the theater, $200,000 toward any expenses that may be incurred, and up to $2 million in matching funds to incentivize support from other donors. The foundation aims to raise $14 million: $5.6 million to purchase the theater, $4.4 million for renovations and restorations, and another $4 million toward endowed funds for facility care and programming.
Spots limited for 10th annual sojourn on Loyalhanna Creek

Penn State Counseling and Psychological Services hosted its semesterly ‘Caring Canines’ event on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event was a collaboration between CAPS and the Mt. Nittany Dog Training Club.
