Convicted murderer gets new trial due to NC stand-your-ground law, court rules
A man who shot and killed his roommate with a sawed-off shotgun is getting a new trial. An appeals court just ruled the jury in the original trial was not briefed on the stand-your-ground provision.

DENVER – The Denver Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) was the first in Lincoln County to start running medical calls, according to Chief James Flynn. This was back in 2001. “We saw there was a need to fill a gap in the service,” he said. “We approached EMS and automated external defibrillators (AEDs) were purchased. We’re now a big portion of that healthcare system as firefighters. Obviously, we’re not going to send a full-blown fire response to a difficulty breathing call. We’ve got to scale our responses depending upon what’s going on.”
