Bills would ban sleeping outside in Idaho’s largest cities, block Interfaith Sanctuary move
Idaho legislators moved ahead with two bills this week that would regulate how Idaho’s urban areas address homelessness. On Monday, the Senate State Affairs Committee voted to move forward bills from two Ada County senators requiring cities larger than 100,000 to follow new rules on how to address homelessness within city limits. This pair of bills, if passed, would preempt rules in Boise, Meridian and Nampa on where homeless shelters can be located and would make sleeping on public sidewalks, parks, in cars, or other public property a crime. And if cities decline to enforce the new camping ban, the legislation allows the Idaho Attorney General to bring consequences.
