The clock is ticking for construction to be completed on the new home of the L.A. Clippers in Inglewood.

As KNX News' Pete Demetriou reports, construction of the Intuit Dome has taken two years and cost more than $2 billion. With most interior work finished, Clippers President Gillian Zucker said they're turning their focus to the exterior.

"We're starting to see the development of the band shell, the pouring of our outdoor basketball court, and the finishing of our buildings that are out there," said Zucker.

In this space they are referring to as an "urban oasis," there will be restaurants, retail stores, bars, and "Spanish steps in the canopy so that fans can be there and spend time in what we consider to be a real park in the middle of Inglewood."

Zucker said the architects came up with the idea to create a sunken garden that will provide green space for guests and give a fresh view to the players whose state-of-the-art practice space will be facing the area.

As Zucker describes, providing views is a design theme: "This is a very open environment. That's something that is considered best in class in professional sports today...being able to watch players as they go through their routine the entire time here."

Work continues on the seating inside the dome, which is designed so that fans feel closer to the action than in any other arena of its type.

As for the players, Zucker said, "Since we had this outdoor garden that we had created, there was actually quite a bit of room there, and so we created an outdoor fire pit space for them as well as a patio, but there was still a lot of room. So we created an outdoor training space as well as a saltwater swimming pool."

Mixed in with all the excitement of creating the latest high-tech sports arena in Southern California, there's an urgency in the air as the sports and entertainment venue will host Bruno Mars as the opening act on August 15th.
