LONG BEACH (CNS) - A suspect was shot by Long Beach Police officers during a foot pursuit and an investigation of the shooting is underway Saturday.

An LBPD officer was on patrol in the area of 58th Street and Orange Avenue at approximately 11:45 p.m. Friday when he saw the suspect shoot at another man, the Long Beach Police Department announced. The officer chased him as he ran away and during the pursuit, the officer shot the suspect.

Officers rendered medical aid to him until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital, according to the department.

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Long Beach resident Demetrius Imoesiri, sustained injuries to his lower body and was listed in stable condition, police said. Officers recovered a firearm at the scene.

Imoesiri was booked on suspicion of one count of attempted murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of illegal possession of ammunition, one count of obstructing a peace officer, and one count of owning or possessing a firearm while subject to a restraining order.
He was booked at the Long Beach City Jail on $1 million bail.

The victim of the shooting ran from the scene. No other injuries were reported and no officers were injured, police said.

Officers were equipped with body-worn cameras and the LBPD said it will review the footage and make it available to the public as soon as possible.

Another armed suspect was fatally shot by a LBPD officer blocks away earlier Friday, but police said there is no indication the two shootings were related.
