The crash was reported at about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday near Roxford Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol.

As KNX News' Pete Demetriou reports, the crash happened when a truck carrying a load of meat slammed into a truck and trailer parked on the side of the road.

"One male driver successfully escaped his burning cab, and passing motorists stopped to help extinguish the flames on his clothes and body," LAFD spokesperson Lyndsey Lantz said in a statement.

The motorist was taken to a hospital with critical burns. No other injuries were reported.

Some lanes were blocked while an investigation and cleanup was conducted, backing traffic up for miles.

It took crews more than 6 hours to clean up the mess so Caltrans could move in to clean the pavement and reopen the lanes.
