HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – It’s National Bike to Work Week and Friday marks the official Bike to Work Day!

In honor of the day, the City of Huntington Mayor’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Council is sponsoring a bike to work celebration. Cyclists stopped by Jeff’s Bike Shop Friday morning for free coffee, donuts and water.

National Bike to Work Week encourages people to stay active and promote healthy lifestyle choices, something organizers say the city of Huntington is made for.

“Huntington is really well-built for this. A lot of people don’t realize that, but Huntington’s been built for riding bikes since the day it was started. You know, it was a town that was built more for walking and for bikes than it was for cars, just as an extension of its age,” said Zane Parsley, chairman of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Council.

Mayor Steve Williams was also on hand to deliver the City Proclamation for Bike to Work Day. The bike to work fun doesn’t end today, as May is also Bike to Work Month.
