The assistant chief for LACoFD Division 6, spoke to KNN on-camera regarding a fire at Station 164 just before 4 a.m. in the 6300 block of Santa Fe Avenue.

He said the cause of the fire is unknown and yet to be determined but it appears that the fire started on the apparatus floor. The firefighters were awakened to a smoke-filled station after hearing neighbors banging on the door. They attempted to grab their gear to fight the flames and get the fire under control. However, the attempt was unsuccessful and additional units were called out to the station.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm structure fire. All firefighters managed to exit the building safely. There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
