Saturday Milltown Water Repair Will Cause Temporary Loss of Service for Some Residents
MILLTOWN, NJ - Some borough residents will want to prepare for a loss of water service on Saturday, July 27, according to a Nixle by the Milltown Department of Public Works. The loss of service is to allow for water main repairs. Water service will be shut off beginning at 7 a.m. on all of Ford Avenue as well as Church Street from Main Street to Cottage Avenue. Service will also be off on Clay Street from Ford Avenue to Cottage Avenue. Milltown's DPW is advising residents to fill containers with water in advance to use for drinking, cooking and to flush the toilet during the absence of service. Residents can make payments online, at the municipal offices, through the municipal drop box, or via mail. Quarterly tax payments can be made online by clicking here. US coastal communities get $575M to guard against floods, other climate disasters
PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) — The federal government is giving more than a half-billion dollars to coastal communities to help them use nature-based preventative measures to address climate-related flooding and other disasters. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Friday announced it is allocating $575 million to 19 resiliency projects in several states, with a particular emphasis on Native American, urban and traditionally underserved communities that experience repeated floods, wildfires and other weather-related disasters. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in a statement that the effort was intended to “help make sure America’s coastal communities are more resilient to the effects of climate change,” The projects include more than $72 million for so-called “living shorelines” in New Jersey, using native plants, oyster reefs and other natural materials to restore and protect waterfronts. There also is money to replace sidewalks with permeable pavement, to top buildings with plants to help absorb heat, and to establish parks in flood-prone areas that can absorb floodwaters.
TE Ben Rothhaar flips commitment to Rutgers
Rutgers landed another commitment in the class of 2025 today when Ben Rothhaar of Norwalk (Ohio) announced his plans to join the Scarlet Knights. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder was previously committed to Kent State but has flipped to Rutgers. Rothhaar becomes the 30th commitment to the Rutgers 2025 class as he joined the program on a day when the staff was hosting an unofficial visitor barbecue for members of the class of 2026. The class of 2025 commits are expected to be on campus tomorrow.
NJDEP investigating after lead material found on beach in Keyport
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection are looking into how objects containing lead appeared on Keyport's bay shore.For months at low tide, residents said thousands of pieces of lead slag can be seen along the shoreline. Just recently, officials determined the objects contain lead.According to New York/New Jersey Baykeeper, objects resembling lead slag first became visible in June, and initial tests have confirmed that the objects contain lead.On July 17th, NY/NJ BayKeeper Greg Remaud discovered a significant quantity of material on the beach near the former Aeromarine industrial site where he said someone illegally...
