One dead in Haysville shooting

UPDATE: A man died after confronting police with a weapon in Haysville.

Police responded to a home in the 200 block of N. Main at around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to conduct a welfare check on a man who was reported to be suicidal.

However, the man was not found at the residence.  Officers located him in a pickup in the parking lot of a liquor store on Main Street.

In speaking with the man, the officers observed that he had a handgun and were unsuccessful in their attempt to de-escalate the situation.

Haysville Police Chief Jeff Whitfield said two of four officers fired thier service weapons.  The suspect died at the scene.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the shooting.

One person is dead following a shooting in Haysville. It happened shortly before 6:00 p.m. Tuesday night in the 200 block of N. Main.

Officials say officers were on the scene, responding to a call.  No officers were injured in the incident.
