After 32 years, Jacksonville fast-food restaurant abruptly closes

Open 32 years, one of Hardee's oldest restaurants in Jacksonville closed abruptly — leaving a farewell sign thanking ccustomers taped to the front door. The fast-food restaurant shut its door Monday, Nov. 2, at 11191 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin. Although its restaurant's monument sign was empty and lights turned off inside the following day, several cars with customers hungry for breakfast pulled in to the parking lot the next day only to leave disappointed. The closure sign on the front door thanked would-be diners for being a valued Hardee's customer. "We sincerely appreciate your business and support over the years, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause," the sign read. Bagel Bakery owner says payment problems persist at City Food Hall

The owner of The Bagel Bakery in Gainesville says City Food Hall owes him about $4,000 in unpaid revenue, raising concerns about the midtown food hall's payment practices and whether other vendors are experiencing similar problems. Jason Cole, owner of The Bagel Bakery, told The Sun in an Oct. 27 phone interview that he had not received a payment since Oct. 5 and said he was aware of other businesses at the food hall experiencing similar issues. Cole also owns The Bagel Bakery at 4113 NW 16th Blvd. Cole, who opened a location at the food hall in August, said his business entered into an agreement with City Food Hall that required vendors to use a shared payment system. He said the food hall is operated by founder and CEO Peter Rounce and occupies space on the bottom floor of The Standard, 1360 W. University Ave. Under the arrangement, Cole said sales revenue from vendors went into a central account before businesses were paid their weekly sales, minus agreed-upon fees. Cole said 18% was deducted from sales, including a 15% fee for City Food Hall and another 3% to support employees working in common areas, such as janitorial staff. While

New Marshtackie Florida Cafe puts St. Johns farm bounty on the menu

A St. Augustine restaurateur celebrates fresh, locally sourced seasonal fare in the heart of St. Johns County farm country with a new restaurant named for a rare Florida horse breed. Marshtackie Florida Cafe will open Friday, Nov. 6, open at 420 N. Main St., in downtown Hastings amid the community's annual Fall Harvest Festival. The cafe is the second restaurant from Jennifer Ashton, owner of the popular Juniper Market at 48 San Marco Ave. in St. Augustine's historic Uptown neighborhood. “Hastings’ passionate growers and the abundance of fresh, seasonal produce are incredibly inspiring to me. I love using what’s in season to create something delicious,” Ashton said in a news release announcing the Marshtackie's opening. “Marshtackie is a place where the community can come together to enjoy good food and good company. We’re here to serve our locals and be part of the neighborhood," she said of opening in the community also known as the “Potato Capital of Florida." The new cafe comes roughly 14 years after Ashton open Juniper Market intially tucked into a corner of furniture import retailer Coastal Traders.
