Deputies catch suspected car thief within an hour of reported theft
Flagler and St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputies worked together to catch a suspected car thief less than an hour after the theft was reported on May 31. “Due to the quick actions by deputies to identify a possible suspect and collaboration with SJSO and both Real Time Crime Centers, the victim was able to quickly get their car back,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said, according to an FCSO news release.

A Middleburg man was arrested Thursday and faces murder charges after shooting a male victim in the arm and abdomen, deputies say. Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2400 block of Zagato Court at approximately 12:29 a.m. Thursday, June 1, in reference to a person shot. $270 million factories set for construction in Clay County this year
The roofing and insulation company IKO confirmed Thursday its plans to build a $270 million manufacturing campus in Clay County. Construction on the new site is set to begin later this year near Florida Highway 301 and County Road 218, IKO wrote in a press release. The new facility will consist of three factories and is expected to be complete by 2026.
Predictions for major storms as hurricane season begins; Clay County residents advised to prepare
June 1 marks the start of hurricane season, and NOAA is predicting a range of 12 to 17 named storms this season, with up to four of them becoming major hurricanes. This year should see a ‘near-normal’ season of storms, which should be less intense than in recent years, according to NOAA predictions. Friday, June 2 is Boater Skip Day and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office created a video with tips for boaters to enjoy the unofficial holiday as safely as possible. Boater Skip Day is the largest boating event in Northeast Florida. Each year, hundreds of boaters take a once-a-year opportunity to trade a day of work for a day making memories on the waters, according to the North Florida Marine Association.
