GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A man from Gainesville was arrested on the charge of attempted murder after officers say he stabbed his 85-year-old mother, nearly killing her. On Monday afternoon, Gainesville Police Department officers say Manny Alcantara, 54, stabbed his mother, an 85-year-old woman, “numerous times” in the chest and back. Emergency crews responding to a Life Alert call, found the woman with life-threatening injuries and rushed her to UF Health Shands.

Victim identified in Tiger Bay Apartments shooting
Police released the name of the male victim in Friday morning’s fatal shooting at Tiger Bay Apartments. According to Gainesville Police Department spokesperson Brandon Hatzel, 25-year-old Wilber Perez was shot and killed around 11:40 a.m. on April 19 in the area of 400 SE 24th Dr. (Tiger Bay Apartments) in Gainesville.
