Florida State uses explosive fifth inning to defeat Florida softball
The stands were filled with loud fans from both Florida State and Florida celebrating Taylor Swift night at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, Wednesday. The Gators faced the Seminoles for the first time, and the crowd's energy was high as Florida held a 2-0 lead through the first four innings. However, in the top of the fifth, the Gators' odds were flipped.
Meet the All-Gainesville Area Wrestling Team, Wrestler of the Year
Two years ago, Cavarius Liddie was named the Gainesville Sun's Wrestler of the Year after a third place finish at states. The then-sophomore said his goal was to win states his junior and senior seasons. It's fair to say his mission was accomplished. ...
Keystone Heights’ Trey Jeffries named Athlete of the Week
Keystone Heights senior Trey Jeffries did just enough to bring home two individual Class 1A state titles from the FHSAA Boys Weightlifting Championships last weekend at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. For his accomplishments, Jeffries has been named the Pavlik Orthodontics Athlete of the Week for the week of...
The Jac Caglianone Fan Club is booming, and it’s easy to see why | Whitley
It’s tempting to say Jac Caglianone can do no wrong, but the panting from three of his biggest fans told a different story Tuesday night. They were slightly out of breath after hustling toward the right field berm at Condron Family Ballpark. It was the fourth inning of Florida’s game against Stetson. If Caglianone hit a home run, that’s where most fans assumed it would go.
Things 'going good' for Florida Gators with legacy WR recruit
The college football recruiting grind continues for the Florida Gators this spring, with the program looking to take a step forward from last season’s disappointing finish on early signing day with a strong showing with the 2025 class. One of the targets for the team in the current cycle...
Crosby’s home run leads Santa Fe past GHS
If you had told Gainesville softball coach Chris Chronister before Monday night’s game that GHS would score five runs against visiting Santa Fe (Alachua) he would have predicted a Hurricanes’ victory. Caglianone continues unbelievable tear in victory against Stetson
There aren’t many words that fairly describe the exceptional ability of Gators two-way player Jac Caglianone. His success over the last month has been nearly indescribable. “I think he’s having fun playing baseball, honestly,” head coach Kevin O’Sullivan said April 16. “When you have really good players… that care about the success of the team, rather than themselves, then this is what you see.”
Jac Caglianone's 9-game HR streak ties record. It's one of few bright spots in Gators' tough season
Florida’s Jac Caglianone continues to shine in what otherwise has been a dismal season by the program’s lofty standards. The two-way star and projected top-five pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball draft tied the NCAA record when he homered for a ninth straight game in a loss at Vanderbilt on Friday. Nevada’s Tyler Bosetti in 2021 became the first player to go deep in nine straight games. “It’s something we’ve never seen before, honestly, and we’ve had some really good hitters over the last 16 or 17 years,” Gators coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “I think that’s one of the most disappointing things as well. Jac’s having an incredible year and we’re just, like I said, we don’t have enough guys behind him.” Caglianone’s 23 homers are second in the nation behind Charlie Condon’s 26 for Georgia. Caglianone connected 33 times last season to lead the country.
