Cosby defeats Hampton to set up winner-take-all region game vs. Jellico
HAMPTON — As this high school football season progressed, it became apparent that the top three spots in the Region 1-1A standings would be determined in the final two weeks of the regular season when Cosby visited Hampton in Week 10 before hosting Jellico in Week 11. The first half of the equation was solved in the Eagles’ favor as they traveled to face the Bulldogs and came away with a huge 46-30 victory on the road at J.C. Campbell Stadium on Friday evening, setting up a winner-take-all contest for the region crown as Cosby hosts the Blue Devils this coming Thursday at Virgil Ball Stadium. After Hampton dropped down to 1A a season ago and dethroned the Eagles from atop the region, Cosby (8-1, 6-0) repaid the favor by eliminating the Bulldogs (6-3, 4-2) from title contention, setting up the de facto championship game versus Jellico (9-0, 6-0) in the regular-season finale and clinching a home first-round state playoff game in the process. “I’m just really proud of the kids,” said fourth-year Eagles head coach Levi Cooper. “We talk about it all the time, Friday night comes down to so much of how you prepare through the week. Community School of the Arts Begins a New Chapter After 34 Years
It’s Tuesday afternoon, and little snatches of music drift through the otherwise quiet halls of Church Street United Methodist: a piano melody that starts out haltingly but gradually finds its footing, the bright tinkling of triangles in a percussion circle, stray notes escaping from the classrooms. Meanwhile, in an art room, a group of students is so engrossed in their work that no one even lifts their head when I start taking photos.

Cosby battles past Sunbright, rain for another region victory
COSBY — The Cosby High School football team grew its winning streak to six games and improved to 5-0 in Region 1-1A with a 42-6 win over visiting Sunbright on Friday evening. The Eagles led 28-0 at halftime and held the Tigers off the board until the final minutes of the contest en route to their third home victory at Virgil Ball Stadium in as many weeks. Cosby battled past both Sunbright and the elements to post another efficient performance. “We did a pretty good job of executing on both sides (of the ball),” said Cosby head coach Levi Cooper. “The rain kind of slowed us down a little bit and made it a little more difficult in the passing game, but the guys did a good job.” Despite the rain falling on “The Hill” and the Tigers’ defense adjusting accordingly, the Eagles (7-1, 5-0) were able to run for 214 yards on 25 attempts, good for 8.56 yards per carry, and senior quarterback Spencer Moore completed 7 of 11 passes for 109 yards. “Sunbright ended up putting an extra hat in the box and playing Cover 0 on us,” Cooper said. “They slowed us down a little bit with
