RCHS cheerleaders place second at Sevierville competition
The Rhea County High School cheerleading squad completed their 2023 regular season on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Smoky Mountain Championship in Sevierville, Tenn., by finishing second and obtaining the highest score in program history with an 83.7 overall. The team finished the season with two wins and two second place finishes and beating the program's highest all-time scores at the TSSAA State Competition in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and again at the Smoky Mountain Championship on Saturday. The team will be heading to Disney World in Orlando, Fla., to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Championship on Feb. 9 to Feb. 12, 2024. They began the season with an exhibition performance in the Middle Tennessee Cheer Classic in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The following weekend, they competed in the TSSAA State Competition and brought home second place. The next weekend, they competed in the Magic City Regional in Birmingham, Ala., where they received a first place trophy and bid to nationals. They ended the regional season with a second place finish and another bid to nationals in Sevierville, Tenn., and the highest score in team history.
