At least one Eugene-Springfield Starbucks on company closure list
An this article was updated to correct an inaccuracy. Starbucks will close 250 coffeehouses this week, according to an announcement by Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams released Sept. 24. Grams said locations to be closed were identified as coffeehouses that wouldn’t be able to “consistently deliver the Starbucks experience” or were financially underperforming. Grams said Starbucks continues active development of new coffeehouses and remains committed to growth in North America as the company works to update 1,500 locations. “Closing any coffeehouse is a difficult decision and we know today’s news will be hard for the partners, customers and communities affected,” Grams said. “... We’re making this decision for a simple reason: we want every Starbucks coffeehouse to be a place customers love and partners are proud to work.” Affected employees are being offered transfer opportunities wherever possible and when transferring is not a viable option, those people are given severance support. The company did not announce what locations would close or specific closing dates for affected coffeehouses. The Seattle-based coffee giant made cuts in
