Wilmington Artist Damian Saunders Dishes on His Statement Style
I’ve always been an artist. My mom said [when I was] young, she couldn’t dress me in white clothes because I would come back messy. I was an art major at Sanford School. It’s street style mixed with highs and lows. I’m all about layering, kind of like in my artwork. I’ll mix blue-label Ralph Lauren with Supreme [a limited-edition New York streetwear and skateboarding brand]. At Sanford, guys wore collared shirts or turtlenecks…but [hip-hop] and hanging out with kids who went to public schools had a big influence [on me].

The mural will commemorate Berwyn’s historic fight to desegregate local schools, with artists Nila Devaney, Justin Keller and Kate Welbes overseeing its design and painting.
