WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Bicyclists, runners and hikers now have more access to the Connecticut River with the opening of a new trail.

The Putnam Bridge trail connection links Wethersfield and Glastonbury.

“I know the bikers are certainly ready to go,” Gov. Ned Lamont said. “And what we’re trying to do is a better job of connecting our towns and cities to the great outdoors.”

Officials celebrated the trail’s grand opening on Thursday. The path connects the shared-use path on the Putnam Bridge to Great Meadow Road and Naubuc Avenue.

“We’ve got to be very clever about how we use our space, and working with the legislature,” Lamont said. “We’re fighting every year and preserving thousands and thousands of acres.”
