Looking for work? Thunder Valley Casino Resort is hiring for more than 100 part-time and full-time positions ranging from food servers to front desk workers and emergency medical technicians. The Sacramento-area casino is hosting eight job fairs in Nov. to fill the positions. The job fairs began Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the casino’s employment center, 1200 Athens Ave. in Lincoln, the casino said in a news release. They’ll continue through Nov. 26. Placer County Moves to Protect 525 Acres Near Auburn From 128 Future Homes

A 525-acre stretch of oak woodland and cattle ranchland northwest of Auburn could be protected from development forever under draft agreements the Placer County Board of Supervisors voted to approve on Tuesday. The property, known as Harvego Bear River Preserve Phase 2, sits near the Auburn Valley Country Club community and is currently zoned for about 128 homes. Sacramento's Railyards is building momentum. New housing may have to wait until 2028

Even though a hospital, concert venue and soccer stadium are coming to Sacramento’s Railyards, the district may not see new residential construction for several years. There are two apartment complexes there now — Wong Center and The A.J. Apartments — but one of the district’s lead developers said recently that he believes the Railyards and other parts of Sacramento’s core may not see home building speed up again until around 2028. “We’re just not in a place where rents and the market are supportive of new development,” said Denton Kelley, CEO of LDK Ventures, the master developer of the Railyards district. “...It will probably take until about ’28 before we start seeing new residential projects in the Railyards and, probably, within midtown and downtown.” The suburbs have seen more solid job growth, especially along the Highway 50 corridor where Folsom and Rancho Cordova are located. Kelley said cited recent investments in those areas by firms like Solidigm and Micron . That area will probably outperform the rest of the market for the next three to five years, Kelley said. The Railyards will compete with those cities’ “lifestyle centers” like the Palladio shopping center in Folsom or the Fountains in Roseville.

Does SMUD owe you money? How to check for unclaimed checks from the utility

Does the Sacramento Municipal Utility District owe you money? The utility has posted a list of people who have not claimed checks dated between Oct. 1, 2022 and Sept. 30, 2023. Payments that remain unclaimed after Dec. 21 will become property of the utility. “These are checks dated September 30, 2023 or earlier that were issued by SMUD but remain uncashed,” SMUD said in a Friday news release. To file a claim on an uncashed check, call 916-732-7440 and supply the claimant’s name, current address, telephone number and the address for the time period between Oct. 1, 2022 and Sept. 30, 2023. Claims also can be mailed to Sacramento Municipal Utility District Unclaimed Monies, 6201 S Street, Mail Stop B352, Sacramento, CA 95817-1818. Replacement checks may only be issued to the claimant or, upon proof of their death, to their beneficiary. Checks that are not claimed by 5 p.m. Dec. 21 become the property of SMUD under California law.
